Believe in Yourself
The 19th Annual Self Advocacy Conference, sponsored by San Diego People First, was a huge success. The theme this year was "Believe in Yourself." We had dynamic speakers and informative workshops and of course we will have the dinner dance. The conference was held May 9 and May 10, 2009 at the Mission Valley Marriott Hotel. Over 425 self-advocates attended the two-day conference. At the awards dinner many awards were given out. ARC Lexington received the award for Self-Advocacy Group of the Year and and Teresa Priest received the Michael Delisa Award.
The keynote speaker was Peggy O'Neal. Peggy is an advocate for positive living. Having triumphed over many challenges, Peggy now celebrates her uniqueness! From the soaring height of 3 feet 8 inches, she works as a psychotherapist, speaker, author, coach and is a featured teacher in the new self-help movie: The Opus. Peggy’s work involves talking to kids in schools about honoring differences in others & celebrating their own uniqueness. She trains people in businesses to open their hearts and minds to one another, to contribute from their innate greatness & to communicate in a way that generates harmony & real connection. Peggy is the author of two books: Walking Tall and , award winning Little Squarehead. She also serves on the board of Disability Rights CA and the LA chapter of the National Speakers Association.
